"He tasted lazy, of salt and dune grass.."
-Pellaz-har-Aralis, Enchantments,  Chapter Six.

"I will do this thing, Rue. I will make you my consort. It will please me greatly to indulge your desires. But not for one moment will your life here be joyful. Not for one moment. You are a thief and I will remind you of that fact for the rest of your life."
-Pellaz-har-Aralis, Enchantments, Chapter Eleven

"We exist, frozen together, as Tigron and Tigrina. We are not king and queen, for we are both har. Our titles describe our functions, that is all. We do what has to be done and we do it well. We are strangers, yet conspirators, colliding occasionally in a cold dark place. Whatever feelings had raged high on that hideous day of accusation and fury were smoothed over; buried, if not forgotten. I sought forgiveness with dignity from those whom I had offended. I Became Tigron:  a mask. They all knew it. The day I walked between the columns of the High Nayati of Immanion to pledge an oath in blood to my consort is the day I sacrificed myself to my hara.
-Pellaz-har-Aralis, Enchantments, Chapter Eleven.

"Don't call my Caeru. That is what they call me. It is the name I was born with it is true, but my friends have always called me Rue." He sighed. "Rue for sadness, who barely exists anymore. Rue was happy; Caeru is not. Caeru is a slave because Rue made a grave mistake."
-Caeru, Bewitchments, Chapter Four

"Most evenings, he will come to talk to me. He says he does't blame me for what happened. He says he knew it was Thiede. I tell him he's lying when he says that but he only smiles. Sometimes, he wants to take aruna with me. He admires me as he would admire a well-sculpted statue. That's what I am to him, fleshless, but I can't refuse him. It's sick, isn't it? I think he has become genuinely fond of Wolf. They've given him another name now, one fit for a prince, but he is still Wolf to me. At least that turned out all right. Ahh well. I have riches beyond imagination, I live in a palace and I don't have to lift a finger if I don't want to. He touches me sometimes...I should be happy, Shouldn't I?"
--Caeru, Bewitchments, Chapter Four.

"Rue, do you want to know why I hated you? [...] It was because I wanted you to be Cal, and you weren't. I felt you were taking his place, and if I let myself grow to love you, I would be reinforcing that belief, doing what Thiede wanted me to do. In a way, it was pure stubbornness on my part It must have hurt you a lot. I won't apologize because it would sound pathetic after so much mental cruelty, so let's just open another bottle of wine and talk about something else shall we."
- Pellaz-har-Aralis, Fulfillments, chapter 31

Canon Character Information
Appearance: Rue is slight, petite, with brilliant blond hair that he teases outward like a lion's mane and has dark blue eyes. Like all hara, Rue is androgynous, a perfect blending of male and female. He tends to wear darker colors, choosing to play up the sadness and tragedy associated with him. He's adept at wearing masks, playing roles, and when he steps into the role of Tigrina, instead of just Rue, his makeup and hair are meticulous, fine and brilliant. His nails are usually painted, with precious jewels pressed into them. He has an inception scar on his forearm, a 4 inch scar where blood was transfused, and triggered the transformation from human to har.

History: Once upon a time, in the far away land of Ferelithia(real world location is Croatia), Rue was happy. He was the vocalist in a small band, the Closets of Emily Child. But Rue wasn't destined to stay in Ferelithia, happy, safely tucked away from the drama and birth pangs of Wraeththu. He was introduced to Pellaz, newly reborn and groomed into his new role as Tigron, leader of the Gelaming tribe, and still grasping with the power that he held. The two were instantly drawn to each other and had a night of mind blowing sex. When he awoke, Pell was gone. The next couple of months Rue felt sick, exhausted and he brushed it off as a never ending stomach bug and a little weight gain. It wasn't until he was in collapsed on the street in labor(and thought he was dying) that his human friend, Kate, confessed Pell's dirty secret. He had knowingly, stupidly gotten Rue pregnant, and run away. Their fight lasted all the way through delivery of the pearl. Rue had initially been terrified, it's quite a mindfuck to someone who was once a human male to realize they have been changed so completely. But the moment the pearl hatched (yes, hara are not mammals but egg layers), his maternal instincts kicked in.

Innocently believing that Pell would be thrilled with the child- harlings being so rare in those early days- both Rue and Kate set off to Immanion(located in Italy), Pell's fate is Tigron unknown to them. The moment he set foot into Immanion Caeru's fate was fixed. Pell and his advisers refused to see him, treating Rue and the child, Wolf, who later renamed Abrimel, as the Tigron's dirty little secret. Pellaz was convinced Rue came to weasel his way into the new government, using the child as leverage to gain power, riches and glory. Pell and Rue were forced by Thiede into bonding in blood, essential an unbreakable marriage. Rue refused, but Thiede wouldn't let him leave. Pell took this as proof of Rue's manipulative behavior and downright greedy motives. Rue was the one night stand that never left, trapped in a sham, loveless marriage with Pellaz.

Still in love with Cal, the har who seduced him away from his family and introduced him to Wraeththu life, Pell did his best to make Rue's life in Immanion living hell. He saw Rue as a substitute for Cal, a greedy har trying to take his place. Their relationship spiraled into downright abuse, Pellaz visiting the Tigrina's chambers, taking aruna with him only to dish out mental abuse him for months afterward, never speaking to him unless required or forced to. Their relationship is based of hatred, necessity and bitterness. Pell does his best to make sure Rue knows he considers him an interloper, a thief who stole Cal's place. That being said, Rue would do it all over again, despite the abuse and the grief. He enjoys the rooms he has in the palace, the hanging gardens, the marble walls, the jewels, the clothing, expensive wines. At the same time, he sometimes considers the price he had to pay for the privilege as Tigrina to be too high.

Due to horrible neglect, denied basic love and attention from his parents, Caeru's son Abrimel grew up to hate and eventually cast them off. He thinks of Caeru as stupid, weak and manipulative, like an abused dog who keeps coming back wagging his tail after each kick. Abrimel later joined forces with Ponclast, seeking approval and attention from a charismatic authority figure who happened to be a murderous rapist with plans for genocidal conquest. Abrimel was accused of treason and is a prisoner of war.

For 28 years nothing changed, both Tigron and Tigrina locked together in hatred. It's during this time that Caeru is taken.

Personality: From the start, Rue was bathed in spotlight; first as a two bit singer and then as Tigrina. Caeru has learned the value of masks, easily fitting into each one as the situation desired. He can be a gracious host, the perfect, adoring Tigrina whose outward mask is known to all and frequently appears the subject of gossip. Caeru's moods are legendary, biting and hissing and lashing out like pedigree cat. He tends to be on the melodramatic side, playing up the tragedy and pain for attention. At his most shining moments he can be described best as a vicious bitch. Sadly, even with the fighting and the abuse, Caeru loves Pellaz with abandon, often too much and undeserving so. In this way, his son Abrimel is right, Rue is like a kicked dog and will always keep coming back to Pell for another kick, just in case he gets a kiss instead.

Due to his fights with Pellaz, the palace seems to be one big playing field, two sides often divided between Pell and Caeru. Caeru was not entirely popular among the Gelaming's inner circle, however the public seems to adore him. Later, this changes, with Cal as his ever unlikely champion and he becomes an accomplished diplomat.

Rue likes to think he's lazy, that he does not like work. Before his time as Tigrina in Immanion he chose to work as a singer, because he was blessed with a good voice and didn't have to do manual labor. As Tigrina, he likes to think that he is merely a pretty bauble, often dangled out to please the masses. That is his excuse for not coordinating projects to help hara kind—he's just a bauble, bauble's don't do anything but sit and look pretty. Caeru is incredibly wasteful and rude, known for throwing things, such as precious stones, clothing, and make-up brushes on the floor when he's done with them, or when his mood changes.

As Tigrina, Caeru is pure Gelaming. The Gelaming are more advanced technologically and magically, and see themselves as the white knights of Wraeththu, usually butting in where they are not wanted, and doing everything 'for the good of Wraeththu'. Not every tribe is welcoming to the Gelaming, but many pay lip service to avoid Gelaming 'help' or interference.

Powers/Abilities/Talents:

Wraeththu magic is more energy and will manipulation, like telepathy, empathy, healing and telekinesis. He starts out with mid-level skills, and has progressed over the years due to necessity as Tigrina. It simply wouldn't look good for Pellaz's power to completely outshine his Tigrina's.

In terms of mundane skills Rue is an excellent lay and prides himself on his ability to prolong pleasure and give mind-blowing sex. As Tigrina he's skilled in politics, diplomacy and negotiation, and knows how to put together a great party. Rue knows how to work a crowd, and uses it to his advantage; a talent from his days as a vocalist and honed as Tigrina. He is adored. He's not necessarily something special, his looks are easily outdone by other hara, however his magnetism, and sheer sensuality draw people to him, keep their attention.

His bodily fluids, with the exception of saliva, are a caustic poison to humans. No doubt he will have to be very careful in Medietas. In addition, due to an imperfect inception, his eyesight is terrible. He often squints.

First Person:
[Rue's image appears on the monitor, the room behind him a mess, lamps toppled, items look like they've been haphazardly thrown, and the Tigrina of Immanion is furious. Sounds of screeching come as he throws a couple more items around for good measure before turning to the screen]

One of you took my hairbrush. I know you did. Where is it? You're probably enjoying my suffering. Poor little erstwhile Tigrina, can't find her hairbrush. Ha ha.

[Pity the poor soul who volunteers that it might be easier to find things if Rue wasn't constantly throwing them on the floor.]

For nearly 30 years nothing changed, both Tigron and Tigrina locked together in hatred. But then, Cal came back, and Cal is nothing if not the avatar of change and trouble. Informed that Cal was now Tigron, sharing the title jointly with Pell, as the Tigron's consort, Rue now also belonged to Cal. Rue didn't take this well, hating Cal the instant he saw him and even before, besides considering that he didn't belong to anyone. Eventually Rue's tantrum and hatred of Cal lessoned and Cal became a healing force between Rue and Pellaz. Everything seemed to be going great, until Pellaz came up with the idea for Rue to host a pearl, a harling, made by all three of them. Rue consented, but the conception and pregnancy was not easy. He constantly felt like he was being drained and in pain, and started to resent the pearl he was carrying.

One night, a week before he was due, Rue was attacked in his rooms, bashed over the head and gutted, his abdomen cut open. The pearl was literally ripped from him. Rushed to the healers, his injuries were tended. Pellaz ordered the healers at one point, using substantial amounts of his own energy, constantly healing him over a period of a day or two. His only remark afterward was that Pell didn't wish Rue to die. These attacks have left his stomach with a sunken appearance, numerous scars etching along his stomach. Caeru has had to adjust his lifestyle after the attack, he has been left barren, unable to host any more pearls. The rest of his injuries to muscle and internal organs are still healing.

Due to horrible neglect, denied basic love and attention from his parents, Caeru's son Abrimel grew up to hate and eventually casts off his parents. He thinks of Caeru as stupid, weak and manipulative, like an abused dog who keeps coming back wagging his tail after each kick. Abrimel eventually joined forces with Ponclast, seeking approval and attention from a charismatic authority figure who happened to be a murderous rapist with plans for genocidal conquest.
Abrimel was accused of treason and is now a prisoner of war.

Abilities:

Rue's a good lay. A very, very good lay. In terms of his magical skill as a har, they are rudimentary at best. While he is trained, he didn't put much effort into it and it is far from complete. He knows how to put together a great party.

Flaws: Rue is a bitch. He's selfish, childish and throw tantrums when he doesn't get wants. He also pouts. He throws things on the floor constantly, leaving a giant mess in his wake. After years of verbal sparring with Pellaz, his self confidence isn't what it should be, but he puts on a great show. He also becomes an accomplished diplomat, as he works more with Pellaz and Cal in government affairs and treats himself less like a pretty bauble.
